彫金工具 ヤスリ | Jewelry Tools: Files
ヤスリはジュエリー製作を行う上で、特に欠かせない基本的な道具です。鉄製の棒の表面に、素材を削るための刃が切ってあります。刃が切られていない部分を持って使います。
Files are essential basic tools in jewelry making. They consist of a steel rod with cutting edges for shaping materials. The part without cutting edges is used as the handle.
ヤスリの使い方 | How to Use Files
素材を削るための刃は一定方向に向いているものが一般的ですので、通常は先端に向けて押し出した時のみ削れるようになっています。
The cutting edges of files typically face one direction, so they usually cut only when pushed forward.
ヤスリの種類 | Types of Files
ヤスリには様々な形があります。平らな板状のものが一番基本的なヤスリです。そのほか、断面が丸や楕円、三角、四角、薄い刃のような形状、片面が丸く反対側が平らなものなど、用途に応じて使い分けます。また、刃の大きさにも種類があります。
Files come in various shapes. The flat, plate-like file is the most basic. Other shapes include round, oval, triangular, square, thin blade-like forms, and files with one rounded and one flat side. They are used according to their purpose. Additionally, files come with different grades of cutting edges.
荒い目の刃ほどよく削れますが、そのぶんヤスリ跡のキズも大きくなります。通常の作業では、荒い目のヤスリから段階的に細かい目のヤスリに移行していきます。
Coarse files remove material more efficiently but leave larger scratch marks. Typically, work progresses from coarse to finer files to smooth out the surface.
材料によるヤスリの使い分け | Using Different Files for Different Materials
削る素材によって、ヤスリの種類を変えることもあります。ジュエリーの原形製作に使われる素材のワックスは、金属よりも粘り気があるので金属用のヤスリを使うとすぐに目が詰まります。ワックス用のヤスリはワックスでも目が詰まりづらいように出来ています。
Different materials require different types of files. Wax, often used in jewelry prototyping, is more viscous than metal and can clog metal files quickly. Wax files are designed to be less prone to clogging.
