ジュエリー制作の方法は、大きく分けて2種類の方法があります。一つ目は、材料となる貴金属を直接加工する方法です。二つ目は、別の材料で原形を制作して制作する方法です。そのうち後者の方法では、主にワックス(細工ロウ)と呼ばれる、加工に適した材料を使用してジュエリーの原形を制作します。

- まず、ワックスを加工してジュエリーの原形を作成します。
- First, the wax is shaped into the desired form of the jewelry.
- 湯道の取り付け | Attaching the Sprue
- 出来上がったワックス原形はその後、金属を流し込むための湯道をつけて、石膏で型を作ります。
- The finished wax model is attached to a sprue, also made of wax, which allows metal to be poured into the mold.
- 型取りと焼成 | Mold Making and Burnout
- 石膏を固めるために高温で石膏を焼きます。このとき、ワックスで出来たジュエリーの原形と湯道は高温によって蒸発するので、石膏内に同じ形の空洞ができます。
- The investment mold is heated to harden the plaster. The wax model and sprue melt away, leaving a cavity in the shape of the jewelry.
- 鋳込み | Casting
- 焼成後に出来上がった空洞に金属を流し込むことで、原形と同じ金属のジュエリーが出来ます。
- Molten metal is poured into the cavity, creating the metal version of the jewelry.
- 仕上げ | Finishing
- 石膏型から金属になったジュエリーを取り出し、必要な加工をして完成品を製作します。
- The metal jewelry is removed from the plaster mold and finished with any necessary polishing and detailing.
